Checking Your Partner Visa on VEVO
VEVO shows the visa you hold today and its conditions, so an onshore partner visa applicant sees their current substantive visa until it ends, then the Bridging visa A, and the subclass 820 only once it is granted.
If an earlier visa is still in effect when you lodge, VEVO keeps showing that visa and its conditions until it ends. The bridging visa granted with a partner visa does not come into effect before then. Home Affairs gives this case as its own example: VEVO cannot show a visa that is not yet in effect, "if you hold a Bridging visa but your substantive visa has not yet expired". What does VEVO show a partner visa applicant?
The visa in effect today: which visa, its grant and expiry dates, the "must not arrive after" date, the period of stay, work and study entitlements and, for temporary visas, the conditions. The Department's VEVO page says a check needs your passport or ImmiCard and one reference number: your transaction reference number, visa grant number or visa evidence number.

Why does VEVO still show your old visa after you lodged a partner visa?
Under cl 010.511 of Schedule 2 to the Migration Regulations 1994 (Cth), the Bridging visa A comes into effect when your substantive visa ceases, not when it is granted. VEVO shows only the visa in effect.
Worked example. You lodge an onshore partner visa on 10 February 2026 while on a visitor visa whose stay ends on 30 April 2026. A VEVO check on 15 March shows the visitor visa and its conditions, including 8101 (no work). A check on 1 May shows the Bridging visa A, which took effect when the visitor visa ceased at the end of 30 April. Under cl 010.611(4) it carries the same 8101, because the bridging visa takes on the earlier visa's work conditions.

How do you read your partner visa conditions on VEVO?
These are the codes partner visa applicants most often see on VEVO, with their wording in Schedule 8 of the Migration Regulations 1994 (Cth):
- 8101: "The holder must not engage in work in Australia." It usually comes from a visitor visa and carries over to the Bridging visa A.
- 8105: a student visa's work limit while your course is in session. On a subclass 500 student visa it is 48 hours a fortnight (cl 8105(2A)). If it carries over to a Bridging visa A granted on your partner application, the 48-hour rule no longer applies and the limit reads as 40 hours.
- 8501: you must keep adequate health insurance while in Australia. It binds you while the visa carrying it is in effect, and it is not among the conditions that pass to a Bridging visa A.
- 8503: the holder cannot be granted a substantive visa, other than a protection visa, while in Australia. If it appears on your visa before you lodge, a waiver must be approved first.
- No conditions: normal once the subclass 820 is granted.

Does VEVO show your partner visa application status?
No. The Department says VEVO "does not provide information on your previous visas or new applications" it may be assessing. VEVO shows visas you hold. The progress of your partner visa application, including anything under "Actions required", is in ImmiAccount.
Can your Australian sponsor check your visa on VEVO?
Not directly without your details. A visa holder check needs your passport or ImmiCard and your reference number. The simpler route is for you to check VEVO and use its email function to send the result to your sponsor.
What changes on VEVO when the subclass 820 or 309 is granted?
- Subclass 820. VEVO shows the subclass 820 with no conditions. Home Affairs says you can work and study and travel as many times as you want.
- Subclass 309. VEVO shows the subclass 309. If it was granted while you were outside Australia, it also shows the "must enter before" date from your grant letter.
- Subclass 801 or 100. VEVO shows the permanent visa. The "must not arrive after" date marks the end of its 5-year travel facility, after which you need a Resident Return visa to come back as a permanent resident.

How do you share your partner visa work rights with an employer or university?
From your VEVO record you can email your visa details to another person, such as an employer or landlord. The free myVEVO app does the same from your phone. Home Affairs says employers, banks and other registered organisations can also check visa conditions against your digital record.
What if VEVO cannot find your partner visa or shows the wrong conditions?
The commonest cause is a new passport the Department has not been told about. Update your passport details in ImmiAccount, and Home Affairs links it within 3 business days. The web form takes 14 days. Other causes Home Affairs lists are a mistyped number, such as a capital O for a zero, and using the reference number of a visa that is not in effect.
If the conditions look wrong, compare them with your grant letter. Then contact the Department, using the Visa Entitlement Online Enquiry form for a VEVO error, or "Update us" in ImmiAccount for a change in your circumstances.

Home Affairs says you can check your own visa at any time, and the myVEVO app is free to download.
Do you get a visa label in your passport?
No. Home Affairs says the partner visa is digital and linked to your passport.
Does VEVO show your Bridging visa B travel period?
Only once the Bridging visa B is the visa in effect. Your grant notice is the record of the travel period, and Home Affairs says it states it clearly.
Is a VEVO record proof of your visa at the airport?
Your visa is the digital record itself. Home Affairs says airlines use it to check your visa before you board. VEVO is how you show it to others.

VEVO tells you where you stand, not whether the application underneath it is sound. A registered migration agent or an Australian legal practitioner checks your conditions against the partner visa criteria before you lodge, including 8503 and any carried-over work limit, so an application they prepare is more likely to succeed. No one can guarantee a grant.
